Hampshire Open Studios is a county-wide event where amateur / professional artists and makers open their studios to the public during the last week of August.
Ian Withall, a local artist from Hardway is taking part in this year’s event.
Ian started creating art again 6 years ago after a 30 year break when his wife wanted to buy a cow painting whilst on holiday in Cornwall and offered to paint one instead. Ian says that his style continues to evolve and now prefers to paint less traditional subjects or perspectives either in acrylics or digitally.
Ian’s painting of ‘Vegan’ Minced Steak was selected by Nigella Lawson as part of food week for Channel 4’s Grayson’s Art Club. It is currently being exhibited at the prestigious Bristol Museum and Art Gallery until 4th September.
He has begun exhibiting art locally and entered the 2022 Titchfield Art and Craft Show and won 2nd place as a new exhibitor for his painting “God doesn’t need to save me”. This caused quite a stir (for good reasons) and heard it was the most talked about piece at the show. They have invited him to be a demonstrator at next year’s show.
Ian’s Open Studio can be found at 52 Findon Road, Gosport. He is open daily 10am to 5pm on 20-25th and 27-29th August. Tea, coffee and cakes can be enjoyed in sub-tropical garden* (Ian is a former winner of Gosport in Bloom and has previously opened his garden a pat of the National Garden Scheme).
